Professor Zaza Tsotniashvili, as the Head of Media Programs at Caucasus International University and an expert in the educational sphere (founder of the “House of Education”), spoke about the global research project funded by Germany's “Center for Advanced Internet Studies” (CAIS): “Assessing the Challenges and Opportunities of Conflict Journalism’s Technological Terrains”. He noted that it is a great challenge for him to work with such experienced researchers in this field as: Tara Pixley, Adrian Hadland, Martin Smith-Rodden, and Andrea Bruce. He emphasized the unique importance of this project, as it involves, alongside the Georgian university, global academic giants: the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at the University of Oxford, the American Temple, Ball State, and Georgia Universities, as well as the British University of Stirling.

During the interview, in response to the hosts' questions, the guest explained in detail how Artificial Intelligence (AI), drones, and cyber-surveillance are changing the specifics of war reporting. It was noted that the traditional threats described in his book are acquiring a new dimension today; in the 21st century, a journalist may become a victim not only of physical attack but also of disinformation campaigns and “Deepfake” technologies.

The Professor also reviewed the research methodology, which envisages surveying up to 3,000 journalists on a worldwide scale. At the end of the conversation, Zaza Tsotniashvili announced that at the concluding working meeting scheduled for June 2026 in Germany (Bochum), a practical Guidebook will be developed. This document will become a roadmap for media organizations to better protect journalists and maintain trust in an era where technology is simultaneously both a weapon and a shield.
